Why do people seek therapy?

Nowadays society sets many unrealistic expectations, which in our continuous effort to fulfil, often result in anxiety. In our attempt to adapt to the roles and rules which are imposed on us we often feel overwhelmed, lose direction, and lose our centre. We usually find ourselves repeating cycles of behaviour and patterns of negative thought, which can contribute to illness, stuck relationships, and loss of self-esteem. We know that our minds can quickly jump to worst-case scenarios, worry and self-defeating behaviours. To make matters worse, in this culture we often believe we ‘should do it on our own’, and if that fails, then we look for ‘quick-fix’ solutions, which rarely work.

What psychotherapy can do for you is to reveal to you through a path of self-exploration your authentic self, empower you to make choices that will reflect this self and better adapt to the roles and rules of society. Psychotherapy can be a powerful vehicle for change, growth and development. I encourage clients to bring to therapy the intention of reaching their goal to live a happier, less stressful, and more fulfilling life.

I provide support for adults to help them navigate uncertainties and upheavals in their lives, reflect on emotions, behaviours and relational patterns that may be causing them difficulties, and explore ways forward. People who enter Integrative psychotherapy are choosing a path that can yield many benefits. We have many different parts of ourselves which we are either unaware or resentful of. But by staying in this pattern, we lose our full capacity, become obsessed with one side of ourselves at the expense of other sides, misuse qualities which limit our self-knowledge and end up with a sense of incompletion. Therapy is a process of accumulating the skills that work for you.
